How to actually get in for free
- In 2025 the vintage horse carousel at the heart of the market was free to ride - a hit with small children.
- On Independence Day evening (6 December) the students' torchlight procession traditionally ends on the square, and on Lucia Day (13 December) the Lucia procession starts from it.
- Helsinki Cathedral towers over the market; its steps give the best view of the stalls and the Christmas tree.
