Before you go

How to actually get in for free

  • The market is a long walk rather than one square: start at Place de la Monnaie, follow the chalets to Sainte-Catherine and the Vismet, and finish on the Grand-Place for the Christmas tree.
  • On 24 and 31 December and 3 January it shuts at 6 pm and there is no sound and light show on the Grand-Place.
  • The children's village at the Tour Noire behind Sainte-Catherine Church has free shows by local artists, with choirs at weekends (2025 programme).
  • Weekday afternoons are far calmer than weekend evenings.
